UPDATE: CDC Update Un-Masks Vaccinated Americans, State Still Requires the Covering

Update:
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced this afternoon that the State will follow the guidance of the CDC - adding to it’s May 19th guideline update that vaccinated individuals can un-mask while indoors starting on the 19th

In a release today by CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, fully vaccinated Americans were notified that they can begin to unmask in almost all situations. "If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic," Dr. Walenksy said during the White House COVID-19 Press Briefing.

Connecticut residents and visitors are still required to cover their faces in most indoor situations, as the new updates includes verbiage that allows States to continue social distancing and masking requirements. The State of Connecticut’s next update will come on May 19th, which will lift all business restrictions and will provide updated recommendations by the Department of Health. As of today, those updates do not include unmasking while indoors.

May 13th CDC Updates:

  • Update that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance

  • Update that fully vaccinated people can refrain from testing following a known exposure unless they are residents or employees of a correctional or detention facility or a homeless shelter

Fully vaccinated people can:

  • Resume activities without wearing masks or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance

  • Resume domestic travel and refrain from testing before or after travel or self-quarantine after travel

  • Refrain from testing before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after arriving back in the United States

  • Refrain from testing following a known exposure, if asymptomatic, with some exceptions for specific settings

  • Refrain from quarantine following a known exposure if asymptomatic

  • Refrain from routine screening testing if feasible

For now, fully vaccinated people should continue to:

  • Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms

  • Follow CDC and health department travel requirements and recommendations
