EMS Members Celebrated with First Selectman’s Proclamation

Westport First Selectman Marpe paid a visit to Westport Police/EMS headquarters today to issue an official proclamation recognizing May 16 - May 22, 2021, as EMS Week and honoring the service and dedication of Westport’s EMS providers.
The COVID-19 pandemic has tested EMS professionals like never before. The EMT’s and Paramedics of Westport EMS have risen to the challenge and have played a crucial role in responding to the public health crisis of our lifetime. EMS personnel have been on the frontlines, caring for the sickest patients, while also staffing testing and vaccination clinics, all the while knowing the risks that they, and by extension their families, faced in continuing to provide the best care possible to their patients.
Over the last year, the COVID pandemic has given people a small glimpse into the vital role of EMS professionals. The sacrifice and dedication of Westport’s EMT’s and Paramedics has earned them the admiration and gratitude of our community. Behind those face masks are people who, whether paid or volunteer, take on many crucial roles every day: healthcare professional; emergency manager; social worker; crisis counselor; consoler; caregiver.
EMS Week is a chance for to recognize the service and sacrifice exhibited by our EMS personnel over the past year, and to express our gratitude for all continue to do, every day, for our community.
