Carolina Day School has announced the hiring of Tauni Butterfield as athletic director.

Butterfield spent nearly 20 years as the athletic director of Greens Farms Academy in Westport, Connecticut, and will take over the post at CDS on July 1, 2021. The current athletic director, Steve Henry, is being promoted to associate head of school, according to a press release.

"Tauni brings tremendous, directly pertinent experience from her long and successful tenure at Greens Farms Academy, where she and her team have turned the school into a regional athletic powerhouse," Stephanie Whitney, CDS head of school, said in the release. "Tauni has also been recognized at the district, state and regional levels for sportsmanship and leadership, and we are excited to watch her do the same here at Carolina Day."

Named the Western New England Soccer Association Coach of the Year in 2012, Butterfield attended college at Southern Connecticut State University and King's College (N.Y.) and also had a stint as athletic director at Christian Heritage School in Trumbull, Connecticut.

"I'm looking forward to working with great coaches, committed student athletes, and the athletic staff as we partner together to make the CDS athletic experience the best it can be," Butterfield said in the release.
