Shooting A Film at Compo Mill Cove
Regular viewers of CBS Sunday Morning will recognize Westporter David Pogue, first from his annual holiday segment where as "Techno Claus", he enlightens the audience as to the latest and greatest products in the tech world for their holiday gift considerations.
This day, however he was shooting a segment for a movie by independent filmmaker Matteo Petrelli Called "We The Plastic" which he hopes to release next year. It’s about an unhinged non-conformist who believes that we should leave plastic pollution in the ocean, claiming that the bacteria it fosters could someday benefit mankind, or even give rise to new species. His idea is just insane enough to start a movement among science-doubting social-media followers—and before long, conflict and violence erupt. Matteo is shooting this movie exactly like a documentary, and to make it as believable as possible, he has persuaded reporters, environmental advocates, and politicians to play themselves.
David's contribution was a faux "CBS Sunday Morning" story about the “pro-plastic movement.” As we was engrossed in filming, he didn’t realize that the tide was coming in—and after 10 minutes of shooting, his little pathway to his shooting location was under water. He was saved however as he was fortunate enough to have worn easily removable shoes.
David Pogue was the New York Times weekly tech columnist from 2000 to 2013. He’s a six-time Emmy winner for his stories on CBS News Sunday Morning, a New York Times bestselling author, a five-time TED speaker, and host of 20 NOVA science specials on PBS. He has lived in Westport since 2003.
