Westport Prevention Coalition Announces Postcard Campaign for Local Parents
Press Release
Director of Human Services Elaine Daignault has announced that the Westport Prevention Coalition has launched its new “06880” Postcard Campaign to educate parents and youth.
Ms. Daignault said, “Parenting is hard, and when it comes to supporting and protecting our kids, Westport is a hard-working town. We want the best for our teens, but sometimes our best intentions put their health and safety at risk. Hosting a teen party so you can “keep an eye on them” or “teaching them to drink” before they leave for college puts their health and all that hard work in jeopardy.”
She continued, “The Westport Prevention Coalition wants to help keep teens safe and empower parents to make the best choices for their wellbeing. Over the next 7 weeks, its new “06880” postcard campaign will shed light on popular substances and practices and critical issues affecting our kids.”

“Perhaps you already received our first postcard as we enter into a season that usually sees so many celebrations and end of the school year gatherings. While many get-togethers paused during the pandemic, 2021 may see celebrations returning. Now is the time to have family conversations around how to celebrate safely. Share with your teens what’s important and ask them what they value. Talk early and talk often.”

About the Westport Prevention Coalition: We are a subcommittee of Westport Together, focused on preventing substance misuse across the lifespan. Our coalition seeks diverse representation from the many groups that make up Westport, including youth and families, individuals in recovery, schools, community and volunteer groups, municipal services, business, faith-based groups, treatment providers, law enforcement, and others.
We are funded by the CT Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Local Prevention Council grant, administered through The Hub to Positive Directions – The Center for Prevention and Counseling.
