Wheels2U On-Demand Buses Expands Hours until 9:30 PM for Late Arriving Commuters

From the Westport Transit District

Wheels2U Westport, the Westport Transit District’s on-demand, group ride, door to train platform shuttle service, is extending its service hours to better serve Westport.  Effective Tuesday, September 7, Wheels2U Westport will extend its afternoon and evening service to and from Westport’s two train stations from the current 4 PM to 8 PM period to 4 PM to 9:30 PM.  Wheels2U Westport’s 5:45 AM to 9:45 AM morning service hours are unchanged.

With the extension of evening pickups to 9:30 PM, commuters and others will be able to take Wheels2U from the train stations in the evening should they work late or want to meet friends for a drink or dinner after work.

Residents living in the Wheels2UWestport service area, covering nearly all of Westport, will be able to use the Wheels2U Westport app to request a pickup for trains leaving Grand Central as late as 8:07 PM.  Riders will be taken from the Saugatuck or Greens Farms train platform right to their front door.  No more walking through dark parking lots to get to your car or scraping ice and snow off your windshield in the winter.

Riders should request a pickup on the Wheels2U app when they arrive at the station.  Once they book a ride, they will receive an estimated time of arrival and be able to track the location of their ride in real time.  In most cases, the vehicle will already be waiting at the station.

Pickup areas for the Saugatuck station are on the westbound side of the platform at the corner of Franklin Street or on Railroad Place near the elevator.  Pickup at Greens Farms is in the large commuter parking lot just west of New Creek Road.  There may be more than one vehicle waiting so riders should look for the vehicle number displayed in the Wheels2U app to make sure they are  getting on the right shuttle.

The fare is $2.00 when paid with the Wheels2U app.  A Metro North Uniticket rail/bus pass can also be used.
