Health District Announces Third Moderna Dose Clinic for Immunocompromised Individuals
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for moderately and severely immunocompromised individuals under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization. People who are immunocompromised are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 because they are more at risk of serious, prolonged illness. They may not build the same level of immunity to the 2-dose vaccine series and may benefit from an additional dose to make sure they have enough protection.
The WWHD will host a Moderna third dose clinic for immunocompromised individuals on September 10th from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the Westport Center for Senior Activities. Please bring your vaccination card. Click here book an appointment through the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS).
Who is eligible for third dose?
Currently, the CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. This includes people who have:
• Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
• Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott Aldrich syndrome)
• Advanced or untreated HIV infection
• Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
People should speak with their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.
How long after getting my initial COVID-19 vaccines can I get an additional dose?
The CDC recommends the additional dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine be administered at least four weeks after a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
Where can I access my vaccination record if I have misplaced my vaccine card?
You can now access your immunization record through the CT Wiz Public Portal, a free service provided by the CT Department of Public Health Immunization Program.
Please note that booster dose clinics for the general public will be scheduled when approval is given by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which is expected in late September.
