One Arrested for Friday Night DUI After Striking Vehicle, then a Stone Wall on Cross Highway

On June 18, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Westport Police officers responded to the area of 153 Compo Road North on a report that a vehicle struck a stone wall.  No injuries were reported.  The operator of the car was identified as Dakota Saddler.  In speaking with witnesses, they stated that Mr. Saddler allegedly struck a vehicle while making a right-hand turn onto Cross Highway from North Avenue and evaded the scene.  He purportedly continued traveling westbound on Cross Highway and his car became disabled after striking the stone wall.

When the investigating officer approached Mr. Saddler, he reportedly could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Mr. Saddler’s breath.  Additionally, Mr. Saddler purportedly had glassy/watery eyes, slurred speech, and was swaying back and forth while trying to stand.  Based on these indicators of possible intoxication, he was given a standardized field sobriety test which indicated signs of impairment.

Mr. Saddler was placed under arrest and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol, Evading Responsibility, and Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane.  He was released after posting a $1,000.00 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court the morning of Friday, July 2, 2021.

Norwalk Accident Nearly Cleared; Damage to Commute Already Done

After an early morning tractor trailer accident on I-95 southbound, before exit 16, the traffic on I-95 stretched nearly ten miles as crews worked quickly to clear the accident. The truck was finally removed just after 7:30 AM, however the damage to this morning’s commute was already done as all major roadways in town remain in gridlock as many head to work and school.

A Third I-95 Accident Brings Southbound Traffic to a Stop Between Exits 18 and 17

A third accident on I-95 this afternoon has brought southbound traffic to a near halt between exits 18 and 17. Expect delays as lane closures will affect the afternoon rush hour on local streets. This accident was reported at around 2:45 this afternoon, according to the State DoT. No other information has been released.

Car Plunges into the Saugatuck River off of Imperial Avenue

At 7:00 this evening, first responders were dispatched to the area of River Knoll and Imperial Avenue for the report of the car in the Saugatuck River, just behind the Remarkable Drive-in Theater. Two-Car Accident on I-95 Closes One Lane Northbound; Heavy Traffic Reported

At 7:25 this evening, a two-car accident has closed one lane on I-95 in the northbound direction, about one half mile prior to Exit 18, according to the Connecticut DOT. No other information has been released at this time. The DoT warned motorists of heavy traffic in the northbound lanes from Norwalk to Fairfield this evening due to the accident and rush hour remnants.

Firefighters Extinguish Marilane Dumpster Fire

Westport firefighters were dispatched to Marilane at around 8:45 this evening for the reported dumpster fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the contained flames as nearby neighbors wandered from their homes to investigate the lights and commotion. The trucks cleared from the roadway a short time later.

I-95 Work Zone Accident Sends Multiple Patients to Hospital

A motor vehicle accident with injuries was reported at 2:00 PM this afternoon on I-95 in the southbound lanes, north of exit 16. Arriving first responders found “an accident involving a sedan, a box truck, and a DOT truck” according to the Westport Fire Department’s social media release. Patients were transported to the hospital by Westport EMS and Norwalk Hospital EMS. No information on what caused the accident has been released.

One to Hospital after Cob Drive Car Accident

First responders were dispatched to Cob Drive around 2:30 today for the report of the motor vehicle accident with injuries. Only one vehicle was involved after it lost control striking a utility pole on the residential street. No cause for the accident or extent of injuries has been released. The Westport Police Department were on-scene investigating.
