Pickup Truck Crashes into Disabled Tractor Trailer, Rolling Over and Shutting Down All Lanes of I-95 Tonight

Today at approximately 1700 hours the Westport Fire department along with Fairfield Fire, AMR, CT State Police, and Westport EMS was requested to respond to a rollover on I-95 southbound, south of exit 19.

Units arrived on scene to find an accident involving three vehicles. Based on preliminary reports from those involved and witnesses, it is believed that a tractor trailer was disabled in the right shoulder when a pickup truck struck the rear of the stopped trailer. It was reported that the pickup truck rolled over an unknown number of times.

The driver was assisted from the pickup truck by bystanders. The driver of the tractor trailer was unhurt and was reported to be out of the truck off the side of the highway at the time of the crash.

A third vehicle was reportedly struck by debris from the pickup and the driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a trauma facility and no further information is available on his condition at this time. The accident is under investigation by the CT State Police. The crash resulted in all three lanes of the highway needing to be closed for approximately one hour.

Car Accident Takes Down Power Pole, Closes Coleytown Road between North Avenue and Easton Road

Just after 11:15 today, first responders were dispatched to Coleytown Road between North Avenue and Easton Road for the reported car accident with injuries. A power pole was involved, shutting down the section of roadway as the scene is active. Eversource was dispatched to the scene. No information has been released at this time.

Westport Man Arrested on Sexual Assault and other Charges involving a Minor; Posted Half-Million Dollar Bond

On March 29, 2021, the Westport Police Detective Bureau took a report of a possible sexual assault which purportedly occurred at a Westport residence.  The victim, who is a minor, was living with a relative in Westport.  Christopher Austin also lived in the home.  The victim alleged that Mr. Austin entered her bedroom and touched her inappropriately.  

The detective assigned to the case conducted an extensive investigation that included multiple interviews as well as the execution of a search warrant.  Based upon the results of the investigation, a warrant for Mr. Austin’s arrest was completed and signed by a Superior Court Judge.

On the morning of July 15, 2021, Mr. Austin turned himself in at the Westport Police Department.  Per the warrant, he was charged with Risk of Injury to a Child, Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.  Mr. Austin posted the $500,000.00 bond and is schedule to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court the morning of Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
