New Redding-Easton Superintendent Brings Tradition of Viral Snow Day Songs to Fairfield County
Easton, Redding, Region 9 Superintendent Dr. Rydell Harrison grew to online fame two years ago when his YouTube video announcing a snow day for the Watertown School District went viral; being re-posted by several regional news agencies such as the Connecticut Post.
Now serving the tri-district in northern Fairfield County, Dr. Harrison brought his tradition of announcing snow day through his own songs and dance to the students of Easton & Redding as a storm took over most of the northeast. The YouTube video has been viewed over 10,000 times in the past day.
Westport’s Greens Farms Academy Head of School Bob Whelan also grew to fame when he shared the local private school’s snow day announcement with the help of ESPN. The trend of educational leaders seeming to enjoy the snow day announcements just as much as kids enjoy the snow days themselves is growing, and may be even more important in a world where students may not have face-to-face time with the men and women who run their schools. Putting the increasingly stressful roles in a fun light was a welcome view to many this week.
Ice Hockey on Round Pond
Local teens enjoyed the freezing temperatures today with a game of ice hockey on Round Pond Road.
The Westport Local Press does not advise using any frozen body of water unless confirmed safe, and does not confirm the safety of any body of water.
Westport Hardware: Snow Sleds, Salt Going Fast ahead of Snow
Norwalk resident Sienna Pisano, 5, and mom Kate pick up some of the last snow sleds at Westport Hardware just an hour before their closing today.
The snow storm had many residents running to the locally owned hardware store to grab shovels, salt, sleds, and even gas cans in case power goes out. The locally owned store closes at 3:00 PM today, and will open at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Only eight sleds were left around closing time today.
