Getting their Last Skate in before Tomorrow’s Final Day of PAL Rink Season
Dozens of skaters took to the ice this evening as blue skies and seasonal weather made for a perfect Sunday to use the PAL Rink. The rink will open tomorrow at 11 and close at 6:45, when the last skaters will leave the ice while marking the end to the Rink’s 2021-22 season. WestportLocal.com photo
Staples Girls Gymnastics Excel at the FCIAC Championship

On Saturday February 12, 2020 the Staples Girls Gymnastics team competed in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and exceeded expectations. They were seeded 5th and when the day was over finished 4th with a score of 134.15, edging out Trumbull High. A total of 7 teams competed fielding a total of 60 gymnasts, including two competitors each from schools which failed to qualify.
Standout Mia Guster (all FCIAC) had an awesome day - besting the 60 competitors to win vault - finishing 2nd on floor exercise and 5th on beam. Victoria Fidalgo (all FCIAC) finished 5th on parallel bars. Daisy Seaborne and Sofia Alarcon and Norwalk's Alyssa Smeriglio finished second team all FCIAC. Norwalk gymnasts compete on the Staples team. Grace Horton and Viva Malcarney were FCIAC honorable mention.
Up Next: Staples faces Norwalk and Wilton today Tuesday February 15, in Wilton, and Norwalk on Thursday at the Westport YMCA. Then they head into the State Tournament on February 26th at Jonathan Law HS in Milford and then the State Open Championship on Saturday March 5th at New Milford High School.
Showing Love for Staples Swimming and Diving Seniors ahead of FCIACs
After their final home meet tonight against New Canaan, the Staples Wreckers Swimming and Diving Team honored their Class of 2022 members with chocolates and flowers in a true Valentine’s Day moment of appreciation. The teams will be heading to the FCIAC championships beginning on March 1st.

Staples Girls Basketball Falls to Stamford
The Wreckers were defeated by the Black Knights on Tuesday by the score of 39 to 27. Stamford's strong defense held the Staples girls to just two points in the first quarter. Staples was held to nine points or less in each of the next four quarters, and an attempt to rally in the fourth was to no avail.
