High temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
The highest index values will occur during the afternoon and early evening hours. Heat Advisories may need to be extended into Wednesday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS.
A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk.
Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.
Memorial Day Weather Forecast Improves
The National Weather Service, NYC has forecasted a better day tomorrow in Westport.
"A chance of drizzle or light rain, mainly before 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%."
Chances of rain will quickly lessen after sunrise, going from a 30% chance at 7:00 AM to just a 19% chance at 8:00 AM. By noon, chances will be less than 10%.
After a weekend that drenched the community, Memorial Day honors will most likely be given the go ahead as Mother Nature gives Westport a chance at drying out.
The Westport Memorial Day Parade begins at 9:00 AM from Saugatuck Elementary School, and will continue to Post Road and Myrtle Avenue, ending at Town Hall. The Town of Westport will announce the parade’s cancellation if needed early tomorrow morning.
