Police, Fire, and EMS Busy after 80 Calls to Service Received Before 6:00 PM Today

Sirens could be heard throughout the community today, starting with a motor vehicle accident on I-95 just after sunrise. Local first responders were kept busy afterwards - straight through sunset with multiple car accidents, medical emergencies, and police matters being called into the Westport emergency communications center, located at Westport Fire Department Headquarters and Westport Police Department Headquarters.

  • Westport Police responded to 40 calls-to-service.

Update: MTA Police Confirm One Dead after Leaving Train Traveling Between Westport and East Norwalk Stations

After an incident that stopped railway service between East Norwalk and Greens Farms Station this afternoon, the MTA has released information that describes one individual was killed after leaving a train car while it was traveling between the Westport and East Norwalk Stations.

Press Release, MTA Spokesman Aaron Donovan: 

The MTA Police are investigating a report that a 45-year-old male left a westbound Metro-North train at approximately 11:27 a.m. as the train was traveling between Westport and East Norwalk. The individual was pronounced deceased.

 

Metro-North service is suspended between South Norwalk and Southport. [now restored].

 

The train, carrying 150 passengers, was the scheduled 10:38 a.m. departure from New Haven, due into Grand Central at 12:50 p.m. As of 12:45 p.m., those customers have been transferred to another train.

 

Update, 2:11 p.m.

Metro-North service will resume on the New Haven Line at Green's Farms, Westport and East Norwalk beginning with the 1:18 PM train departing New Haven and the 1:03 PM train departing Grand Central Terminal.

Metro North Service Restored after an Hour of Delay

Update: MTA Police Department confirm that one person was confirmed deceased after they left a moving train car, providing this statement.

Metro North service was restored this afternoon after an unknown issue caused the trains to stop running between East Norwalk, Westport, and Greens Farms Stations, according to the MTA. The service was paused in the area around noon, with stopped trains visible from the West End Avenue neighborhoods.

MTA announced that the railway traffic would resume to East Norwalk, Westport, and Greens Farms stations “beginning with the 1:18 PM train departing New Haven and the 1:03 PM train departing Grand Central Terminal.” Westport Police and MTA Police departments were on scene.

No cause for the delay has been made available.

Westport Police: 4 Cars Stolen with Keys Inside; 15 More Unlocked, Broken Into

The Town of Westport has experienced 4 stolen vehicles since May 1.

In ALL cases, the vehicle doors were unlocked, and the keys were left in the cars. Additionally, we have also responded to 15 vehicle break-ins in the past five days. In all cases of vehicles being entered, which resulted in thefts, the doors were unlocked. These crimes have occurred overnight.  The department is actively investigating these incidents.


The Westport Police Department reminds you to lock your car and bring your keys inside. Further, it is important to remember to take valuables out of your car for the night, such as cash, purses, wallets, and electronics. It is also good practice to keep outside lights on and motion lights activated. Please notify the Police Department if it appears your vehicle was entered, or you observe anything suspicious in your neighborhood. We ask for your assistance in locking your vehicle.
