Car Accident Closes Maple Avenue South
Westport first responders were on scene at a car accident this afternoon on Maple Avenue South, between Clapboard Hill Road and Whitehead Terrace. Reports came in as a motor vehicle into a pole, with the power pole snapped. No word on any injuries. Eversource could be seen arriving on scene a short time later.
Gas Leak Closes Hillspoint Road; Second Time in Exactly 1 Month
According to the Westport Police Department, a gas leak was reported on Hillspoint Road late this morning - closing the roadway between 134 and 163 Hillspoint Road. Exactly one month ago, another gas leak closed Hillspoint Road at all points that went along the Coast. No word on what caused the leak.
Remnant from the Past: State Street East
A sign at the intersection of “State Street East” and Beverly Place remains as a piece of Westport history. State Street East, now known as Post Road East, can still be recognized on some online mapping systems, and on this sign that remains near the intersection of Post Road East and the Sherwood Island Connector. “Beverly Place” has two separate properties on it, one having a small building visible from Post Road East. “Beverly Place” is more colloquial, as the former street used to split 830, 840, and 850 Post Road East. The home on the property was built in 1930, and now serves as a commercial building.
