Westport COVID-19 Cases Up 4; State Positivity Rate 2.73%, Hospitalizations Up 8
The Westport Weston Health District reported 4 new COVID-19 cases for Westport today. The State’s daily test positivity rate was down to 2.73%, and hospitalizations were up 8. The State also reported that 70% of the 2,587 COVID-19 cases reported in the past seven days were unvaccinated individuals.
Westport total positive or probable cases: 1,950 cases.

First Selectman Allows Masks Off in Gyms, Sporting Events for Vaccinated, Socially Distant Patrons and Athletes
First Selectman Jim Marpe announced this week through Executive Order #10 that he has amended the current town-wide guidelines for indoor masking. The amendment allows patrons of gyms and athletes to remove their masks whenever they can remain socially distant. The amendment does not cover school settings.
From First Selectman Jim Marpe’s Executive Order #10Masks or face coverings that cover the nose and mouth (“Masks") are required to be worn in indoor areas of gyms and sports facilities except for the following situations:
Masks must be worn during indoor athletic activities that involve contact (i.e., hockey, basketball). Athlete participants, coaches, officials, spectators, and any others associated with athletic events are required to wear Masks.
Masks are not required for no-contact sports where distance can be maintained (e.g., tennis, running on a track, weightlifting); however, trainers are required to wear Masks.
Masks are not required for activities where individuals can keep a safe social distance (6 feet).
Masks should be removed where there is a possibility of getting wet during swimming.
This Executive Order does not apply to school-based sporting activities.
3. As provided in the Governor's Executive Order No. 13A, Section 1(a), nothing in this order shall require the use of a mask or cloth face covering by anyone for whom doing so would be contrary to his or her health or safety because of a medical condition, behavioral condition, or disability, or anyone under the age of 2 years. Any person who declines to wear a mask or face covering because of a medical condition, behavioral condition, or disability shall be exempt from this order and any requirement to wear masks or face coverings promulgated in or pursuant to any COVID-19 Order, but only if such person provides written documentation that the person is qualified for the exemption from a licensed or certified medical provider, psychologist, marriage and family therapist, professional counselor, social worker, or behavior analyst, the Department of Developmental Services or other state agency that provides or supports services for people with emotional, intellectual or physical disabilities, or a person authorized by any such agency. Such documentation shall not be required to name or describe the condition that qualifies the person for the exemption.

About the Remarkable Theater
Starting in Summer of 2020, the Remarkable Drive-in Theater began as a safe way to get families back to the movies in Westport. The Remarkable Theater is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization run by volunteers, whose mission is to “build a first class art house movie theater in downtown Westport, CT that provides purposeful employment to individuals with disabilities.”
The theater is nestled along the Saugatuck River at 50 Imperial Avenue, Westport, Connecticut
