National Honor Society VolunteersJudi Lake, ,the Westport Library Books Sale Volunteer Coordinator, was elated Tuesday recounting the success of the Fall Library Book Sale.
“The October Westport Library Book Sale was a huge success. We exceed our expectations! The success of the sale would not have been possible without the participation of over 200 volunteers assisting with setup, helping during the event and after, in addition to our cherished volunteers that work year long processing books and helping at the Westport Book Shop.
We would like to give a particular shout out to the multiple organizations that supported the effort this sale including and not limited to: Westport Young Women’s League, Neighbors and Newcomers of Westport, Abilis, Westport Public Library staff, Staples Service League of Boys (SLOBS), Westport National Charity League (NCL), Builders Beyond Borders (B3), and Staples High School National Honor Society. Attached are a few photos of some of the many shifts of volunteers.
All proceeds of the sale support the Westport Library, and the employment of adults with disabilities.”

Neighbors and Newcomers VolunteersWestport COVID-19 Cases Up 10 over Long Weekend; State Positivity Rate 1.98%, Hospitalizations Stabilize
The Westport-Weston Health District reported 10 new COVID-19 case for Westport over the long weekend. The State’s daily test positivity rate was up to 1.98% while hospitalizations remained the same.
Westport total positive or probable cases: 2,118 cases.
Westport total COVID-19 Deaths: 32 deaths.
State Daily Test Positivity: 1.98% [up from 1.70%]
State Hospitalizations: 234 patients [same]
Darien First Selectman Pens a Letter to the Editor: “The leaders we choose....”
Letter to the EditorDear Editor,
For 10 years I’ve served as First Selectman for the Town of Darien…a privilege of a lifetime…after my career at Standard & Poor’s Corporation, raising five children in Darien and spending decades as a community volunteer. I’ve observed over my years in office that women are still very much in the minority as municipal CEO’s yet possess the leadership qualities of strategic thinking, empathy and collaboration so necessary at this time in our political history.
I’ve had the opportunity of working with Jennifer Tooker during my tenure and have seen first hand her warm engagement, strength of character and ability to lead with a calm and steady hand, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis. We are facing unprecedented pressures that are polarizing our communities. The leaders we choose can have a positive or negative impact on a community’s stability and well-being. Westport will be very well served locally, regionally and statewide with Jennifer Tooker at the helm. She is the right leader for this moment.
I enthusiastically endorse Jennifer Tooker for Westport First Selectman and am extremely grateful women like Jenn are willing to step into the arena to serve our communities!
