Dalton Arnold Andrews, 96, Died; Grew up “On the Rocks” along the Saugatuck

Dalton Arnold Andrews peacefully passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021.

Dalton was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 8,1925. She grew up in a house named "On the Rocks" in Westport, CT by the banks of the Saugatuck River with her brother William and her parents, Lauren and Anne Hughes Arnold. She graduated from St. Thomas School for Girls and attended Vassar during the war.

Dalton was invited by a family friend, the then Governor of Alaska, to a memorable summer exploring the territory followed by a stint of teaching skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. In 1969, Dalton married Preston Andrews, and in 1972, she began studying for her Nursing degree at the University of Maryland. For the majority of her career, Dalton worked at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC.

Following the passing of her husband, Dalton became one of the first residents of the then recently built Maplewood Park Place, Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, MD. Here she flourished, making numerous friends and contributions, including serving on many Boards and Committees.

She is survived by her daughter, Catharine; her son, Lauren; her niece Lucy Arnold Reymandt; and her two grandchildren, Anne and Rob. This coming Spring, the family is planning a Memorial Service with the disposition of the ashes at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Bethesda, MD. Any contributions for her memory should be made to Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary, P.O Box 507, Poolesville, MD 20837. Tel: 301-428-8129. Website: https://www.animalsanctuary.org/
