Bedford Middle School Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault, Risk of Injury to Minor after Assaulting Student during Class
Westport Police Department Press Release:
“On January 27, 2022, the Westport Police Department’s Detective Bureau received a report that a Bedford Middle School teacher possibly touched a student inappropriately. The teacher was identified as Arthur Ellis. The complainant stated that she had Mr. Ellis for a class, and it was alleged that the inappropriate touching occurred this past December during class time.
The detective assigned to this case conducted an extensive investigation and based on the results a warrant for Mr. Ellis’s arrest was completed and signed by a Superior Court Judge.
On the afternoon of April 27, 2022, Mr. Ellis turned himself in at the Westport Police Department. Per the warrant, he was charged with Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree and Risk of Injury to a Child. Mr. Ellis was released after posting a $100,000.00 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on May 6, 2022.”

Westport Announces Free Native Sapling Giveaway Friday
Westport Tree Board:
In recognition of Arbor Day, on Friday, April 30, the Tree Board will host its annual native sapling giveaway from 3pm to 4pm at the front driveway at Westport Town Hall (110 Myrtle Avenue). First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker will read a proclamation establishing Westport’s recognition of Arbor Day and the Town’s selection as a ‘Tree City USA’ per the Arbor Day Foundation. Native saplings for giveaway on a first come, first serve basis will be donated by the Bartlett Tree Company.
Westport COVID-19 Cases Up 6
The State Department of Public Health reported 6 more cases in Westport over the past day. The State’s daily test positivity rate was up to 8.80% while hospitalizations were up 19 patients, with 210 patients currently hospitalized for COVID-19 throughout the State.
