Artist Deb Robicheau as Guest Exhibitor at Drew Friedman Art Place at Westport Book Shop
Westport Book Sales: The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome artist Deb Robicheau as guest exhibitor for the month of May at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.
Deb is showing a variety of sculptural mixed media boxes from her recent “Tiny Boxes” series, created during the first two years of the coronavirus pandemic. The boxes incorporate art from comic books from the 1930s through the 1980s that Deb had been saving because she thought their art was interesting. Said Deb, “Once the pandemic hit, I decided to sacrifice to the art and cut them up, to illustrate that value could be transferred into what was important in the current world. The images and words were used to illustrate what we were going through in each of our sequestered spaces. We were all in the same storm, but not all in the same boat. We had the challenge to fit our joy and sorrows and love and loss and life and death into smaller and smaller spaces to try and stay safe. That’s what the boxes symbolize to me.”
Deb Robicheau is a lifelong visual artist, sculptor, painter, writer, screenwriter — and devoted Thalassophile. She is a proud alumus of California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. Deb and her family moved to Westport in 2010.
Deb Robicheau’s artwork will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through May 31, 2022. All artwork on display is available for purchase.
Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit used book store, is downtown Westport’s only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and audio books. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library.
The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis.
Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport, is curating these exhibits, which change monthly. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s business hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. (closed Mondays).
