Westport’s “Unofficial Start of Summer” Begins
Visitors to Compo Beach would be hard pressed to find empty space for their beach chairs and towels as the sand was dotted with sunbathers and water lovers this afternoon. Most of the beach’s parking lots were nearly full by early afternoon as many trudged their way to the shore with all of the sand toys and umbrellas in-tow. As the unofficial start to the summer season, Westport lifeguards will remain on duty through Labor Day until 6:00 PM daily as the beach season gets underway.

A Community Comes Together to Remember
Community members waved to friends and family from the Town Hall hill this morning as the parade continued past. Hundreds lined the parade route, with just as many marching to display what makes them proud to be an American - from baseball uniforms to musical instruments to public service workers. The parade was punctuated by a memorial ceremony for Westport’s fallen service members as well as the nation’s fallen service members. Musical performances, public addresses from veterans and Town officials, and a wreath placement all gave a way for Westporters to come together on Veteran’s Green to remember those we’ve lost while celebrating all that we have.
