Disappointing Night For Staples Girls Soccer

The Wreckers girls fought hard against the number one seed, St. Joe's of Trumbull however Staples fell at the final hurdle in a great game and in the end the FCIAC Championship trophy was not to be theirs. Staples only goal came when Natalie Chudowsky fed sister Evelyn early in the second period. At game's end the girls proudly held up their FCIAC trophies forrunner-up and Western championship.

The staples girls have everything but it wasn’t to be their night. The girls are amazing to work with, they give their all everyday and it showed in the performance last night. I’m hurting for them that they lost in the game but I’m more than proud of how they played and how they conducted themselves all season. On to states now."

Staples Field Hockey Falls In FCIAC Championship Game

Staples field hockey team at the playing of our National Anthem at Brien McMahon on Thursday night.

Number 3 seed Staples Wreckers faced the top seed, perennial powerhouse Darien at Brien McMahon last night and although they fought hard  the entire game the Blue Wave came out on top. Coach Ian Tapsall proudly described his teams efforts this way, [it was a] “Tough loss to an extremely talented and physical Darien team. Our young team has overachieved in reaching this stage. Early goal put us on back foot and didn’t realize our full potential until the third quarter when we put some consistent pressure on their goal. Darien’s win was well deserved and in spite of the loss we are extremely pleased with the effort shown on the pitch”

David Zenreich, 36, Died; Staples Wrestler “whose warmth, charisma, and generosity were limitless.”

David Zenreich died tragically in an accident on September 8, 2022. He was 36. David was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose warmth, charisma, and generosity were limitless.

David grew up in Westport, Connecticut and was known by those close to him for his humor, creativity, brilliant writing, and storytelling. From a young age, David was a voracious reader and a master of words, which was the foundation upon which he built a successful career in digital marketing. An entrepreneur at his core, David launched his first business while still an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2008, he graduated from the Olin Business School, which helped springboard what would become a portfolio of businesses he developed and launched over the next 15 years. David became a leader in his field, and was frequently invited to speak at industry conferences, sought after by other marketing professionals for consultation, and asked to mentor younger, aspiring entrepreneurs and friends.

While cut far too short, David lived a rich and substantial life. He was an avid and accomplished high school wrestler at Staples High School, which is where he first fostered a deep interest in bodybuilding and combat sports that he would carry on throughout his life. David was also a passionate traveler who visited dozens of countries and spent time living across parts of Asia, Europe, and South America. Although he lived in Miami towards the end of his life, New York City was always David's home-which was fitting, given his love for comedy, art, and fashion.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fraternity brothers. David is survived by his parents, Michael Zenreich and Carole Roller; his sister, Sara Weiss; his brother-in-law, Eric Weiss; and his niece and nephew, Hannah and Jesse Weiss.

Interstate + Lakeland Opening New Luxury Products Design Center On Post Road

Interstate + Lakeland’s new state-of-the-art design center at 800 Post Rd. East’s grand opening is on Saturday

Many Westporters likely know Interstate + Lakeland for their contributions to various organizations around town, including the Levitt Pavilion, Staples High sports, and various civic organizations. And they’ve likely passed by their newest lumberyard, the former Torno Lumber Company at 760 Post Rd East. But now, Interstate + Lakeland is introducing itself to Westport in a whole new way.

Just three buildings east of the lumberyard, is their state-of-the-art, two-story, 11,000 square foot luxury Design Center. This one-of-a-kind space was created to serve the architects, builders, designers and homeowners of Fairfield County. With its high ceilings and layout allowing for realistic product dimension and a wide variety of displays, the Interstate Design Center aspires to inspire. For anyone looking for the full spectrum of products to beautify and improve their new or existing home, the Interstate Design Center is the only source you will ever need.

2022 has been quite the year for Interstate + Lakeland. The Fairfield & Westchester County based building material supplier celebrated their 100th year in business, and ushered in the fourth generation of its family-owned leadership. What started as a single lumber yard in Greenwich, CT has now grown into a business that stretches across two states and encompasses six lumber yards, three window & door design centers, and a 100,000 square foot custom millwork facility capable of producing any millwork and molding that architects and designers can dream up. This spacious new Design Center, reminiscent of a fine art gallery, offers clients an experience that is second to none. This most recent addition to Interstate’s portfolio is located at 800 Post Road East in Westport.

Interstate + Lakeland is immensely honored to host Westport First Selectwoman, Jennifer Tooker, at the Design Center’s grand opening on Saturday November 5th from 10am to 3pm. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony, lunch served by the local food truck favorite Melt Mobile, and lots of IL swag for the community.

Staples Girls Soccer Defeats Greenwich 3-1; On To FCIAC Finals!

File photo by J.C. Martin

Greenwich started strong in Wednesday's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference quarterfinal but failed to create anything of value. Staple's Sami DeWitt opened the scoring with a powerful header from an Annabel Edwards corner kick. Staples ended the half leading 1-0.

With the momentum on their side, the Wreckers began early in the second half when Nataly Chudowsky delivered a corner and Sami DeWitt towered above the defenders to score her second header of the game. Staples remained on top and made it 3-0 with a defense splitting pass from Natalie Chudowsky to put Annabel Edwards through on goal. She took the shot early to chip the GK from 25 yards out.

Ali Penella added a late consolation goal for Greenwich to make the score 3-1.

Staples, ranked third in the tournament will no doubt be charged up as they face long time rival, top ranked St. Joe's of Trumbull today at 7:00 PM at Wilton High School. They will be looking to avenge their recent regular season loss to that team.
