DoT Warns of Overnight Exit 17 Shutdown as $100 Million Project Continues

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of the Interstate 95 southbound on-ramp and off-ramp at Exit 17 in Westport and I-95 southbound on-ramp at Exit 16. The on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 17 will be closed and detour will be in place on Monday, November 28 and Tuesday, November 29 and the Exit 17 off-ramp from I-95 southbound will be closed and detour will be in place on Wednesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 1 to facilitate the installation of conduits necessary for the Incident Management System.

If initial work is completed in a single night, the Exit 17 on- and off-ramps will only be closed on Monday, November 28 and Tuesday, November 29.

The on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 16 in Norwalk will be closed and detour will be in place on Monday, December 5 and Tuesday, December 6. There will be alternating one way traffic on East Avenue on December 7, 8 and 9 in Norwalk. These closures are also necessary for the installation of conduit for the Incident Management System.

DOT Project No. 0102-0295 was awarded to Yonkers Contracting Company, Inc at a cost of $103,411,848 on April 30, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed on November 1, 2024.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

The proposed closure and detour are as follows:

 

I-95 southbound On-Ramp at Exit 17 Detour

The traffic will be detoured to Exit 17 On Ramp to I-95 northbound and then to Exit 18 and will be detoured back on I-95 southbound On Ramp at Exit 18.

 

I-95 southbound Off-Ramp at Exit 17 Detour

The traffic will be detoured via Exit 18 Off Ramp from I-95 southbound to Sherwood Island Connector to Route 1 and to Riverside Avenue (SR 33) and on to Saugatuck Avenue.

 

I-95 southbound On-Ramp at Exit 16 Detour

The traffic will be detoured to Exit 16 On Ramp to I-95 northbound and then to Exit 17 and will be detoured back on I-95 southbound On Ramp at Exit 16.

Westport PAL Asks for Donations for their Holiday Toy Drive

The Westport Police Department Benevolent Association, in partnership with the Westport Police Athletic League, will be hosting their annual “Holiday Toy Drive”, that provides toys to underprivileged children throughout Fairfield County. 

Officers will accept new, unopened and unwrapped toys, as well as cash donations in the parking lot of ASF Sports & Outdoors located at 1560 Post Road East, Westport, CT on the following Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.:

  • Saturday, December 3, 2022 

  • Sunday, December 4, 2022

  • Saturday, December 10, 2022 

  • Sunday, December 11, 2022

Additionally, there will be toy collection boxes at the following locations:

  • Westport Police Department, 50 Jesup Road, Westport, CT
