Celebrating EMS Week: Meet Volunteer and Brien McMahon Sophomore Jenna Baumblatt
The United States celebrates Emergency Medical Service Week. In honor of the women and men who serve Westport as EMRs, EMTs, or Paramedics on Westport’s ambulances - each day we’ll meet a volunteer who saves lives in their community.
Jenna Baumblatt began training for EMS when she was just fourteen years old. With both of her parents serving as paramedics for local services and an older brother serving as an EMT - EMS was in Jenna’s blood. She completed her Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course by the time she turned 15, beginning to serve on the ambulance alongside EMTs and Paramedics in the same year she began high school at Norwalk’s Brien McMahon. Jenna continues to learn and practice her skills, and is known to assist in training new EMRs and EMTs. She’s a member of McMahon’s Healthcare Academy EMT Class; she’ll complete her final testing for the rigorous State course this upcoming Saturday - allowing her to advance to the level of Emergency Medical Technician. Since Jenna started serving on the ambulance, she has volunteered hundreds of hours and assisted in saving the lives of many member of our community.
While Jenna isn’t volunteering, she enjoys working for the Around the Rosy consignment shop on Post Road West and the Westport Paddle Club along the Saugatuck in the warmer months. She enjoys the mystery of not knowing what types of EMS calls a shift may bring and being able to help people in a way that makes her think fast and help those who are critically injured or ill.
