First Selectman Welcomes UN Families, “It’s a great day for the beach”

First Selectman Jim Marpe welcomed United Nation families and local volunteers to Westport this morning during the outdoor jUNe Day ceremony on Jesup Green. “Westport is truly unique in appreciating the challenges of international relations.” he said as he described the community’s vast ties to the international community. “It’s a great day for the beach” he added as the sun began to come out. The ceremony, typically held indoors, featured local leaders, arts and crafts for children, and breakfast by Mystic Market and Winfield Deli.

UN families will travel Westport today, taking advantage of activities like Longshore and Compo Beach, Earthplace, and the downtown sidewalk sales. Senator Tony Hwang made mention of the summer activities planned, saying “It’s a beautiful day to get out of the City.”
