Multiple Ambulances Transport Victims from Serious Westport I-95 Accident
Westport Fire Department:
Westport firefighters were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident on I 95 SB between exits 17 and 16. The initial dispatch was for Engine 4, Engine 2, Rescue 3, and the Shift Commander. Westport fire dispatch advised responding units that Norwalk FD was operating at structure fire and Westport would be handling the I 95 response. Westport Engine 5 was added to the incident for assistance.
Engine 4 arrived and reported a multi vehicle crash with heavy damage to both vehicles, numerous patients and requested additional ambulances to the scene. Arriving companies secured the vehicles in place and began patient care to the injured. Westport EMS, New Canaan EMS and Darien EMS assisted on scene transporting five patients to the hospital.
The crash was caused by a vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes of 95, striking the center barrier, and landing in the southbound lanes where it was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. Two lanes of highway were shut down during the incident. The last FD unit cleared at 6:38 AM. CSP was on scene to investigate.
