Westport firefighters were dispatched to a report of a leaking propane tank on Deletta Lane this afternoon. The initial dispatch was for Engine 4, Engine 6, Truck 1 and the Shift Commander.

Westport Engine 4 arrived and found a large inground propane tank on its side at a house under construction. Responding Hazmat technicians determined that the tank was full of propane and not actively leaking.  Engine 4’s crew, with additional responding firefighters, deployed a protective hose line, metered the nearby occupancies and eliminated all nearby ignition sources. Eversource, Westport EMS and a propane contractor were called in to assist.

It was found that recent rainfall from Hurricane Ida caused the tank to roll on its side. The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 3:12 PM.
