Superintendent: Masks Optional at Westport Public Schools’ Graduation and Moving-Up Ceremonies

Westport Public Schools Press Release

Dear Westport Families and Staff,

In collaboration with the Westport/Weston Health District and following guidance from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, masks for attendees at our graduation/moving up ceremonies held outdoors will be optional for those fully vaccinated. It is recommended that unvaccinated attendees should continue to wear masks when in a crowd or a large event such as graduation/moving up.

As for our students at all levels, they will not be required to wear masks given the outdoor seating with physical distancing.

Case rates of COVID-19 are at a very low level in Westport and our community vaccination rates are high, so we feel confident in the safety of this plan. Given the challenges faced throughout the pandemic, we are grateful to have these special end of year events, especially for our seniors at Staples High School.

Respectfully,

Thomas Scarice, Superintendent
