Greens Farms Church Plans Saturday Luminaria Memorial for COVID-19 Victims on Veterans Green

From Claire England, Greens Farms Church Operations Director

It’s been almost one year since a deadly pandemic swept through communities around the world claiming more than 500,000 lives in the U.S. and shutting down schools, stores, and faith communities to in-person activity.

On Saturday, March 13, members and friends of Green’s Farms Church will mark the anniversary with 2,000 luminaria on Veterans Green, Westport, honoring the more than 2,000 residents of Fairfield County who lost their lives to COVID 19 so far.

Bagpipes and a brief service of dedication to lives lost will take at 7pm. All are welcome. Come, walk among the lights (or view from your car), reflect and light your own LED luminaria in tribute to a life lost or affected by the pandemic, or as a symbol of hope for the future. The display will remain in place for 24 hours.

Veterans Green is on Myrtle Avenue in front of the Town Hall. There is parking in front and behind Town Hall and on Main Street behind the Green.
