Construction Crew Strikes Gas Line near Riverside Ave/Saugatuck Ave Intersection

Firefighters were dispatched just after 8:45 this morning to the area of 472 Riverside Avenue for the reported gas leak from a construction incident. Motorists are warned by police of several detours around the leak while it’s controlled.

  • Saugatuck Avenue: Southbound lane open (heading towards I-95 from Downtown), Northbound lane closed (heading from I-95 towards Downtown)

  • Riverside Avenue: Closed between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue

The intersection at Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue is currently closed due to a ruptured gas line.


All northbound traffic on Saugatuck Avenue is being diverted onto Sunrise Road. 


All northbound traffic on Riverside Avenue between the Saugatuck Train Station and Bridge Street is being diverted onto Bridge Street.


All southbound traffic on Riverside Avenue can either divert onto Treadwell Avenue or proceed southbound on Saugatuck Avenue.


The southbound lane of Saugatuck Avenue remains open.


We are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

At this time, it is unknown when this intersection will be reopened.
