Westport’s Finest, Local Community Members Honored during Awards Ceremony
On November 4th, 2022, the Westport Police Department held their third annual officer awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding work done by officers in the year 2021.
Among the recognized were civilian and Westport’s Unsung Hero, Tucker Peters, for saving his friend from drowning after their boat tipped over this past summer and Jose Rodriguez who helped a woman climb to safety after falling onto the train tracks during peak train hours.
Also recognized were Assistant Westport Fire Chief Matthew Cohen and Fire Fighter Michael Durette who assisted officers in locating a dangerous felon.
Officers were recognized for their competence and success in a variety of incidents to include armed suspects, barricaded subjects, the mentally ill, and time consuming, in-depth investigations. Detective Ashley Delvecchio and Detective Marc Heinmiller were co-recipients of the 2021 Officer of the Year Award for their consistent and innate ability to solve investigative cases. In all, forty officers received awards, many of whom received multiple awards.
Chief Koskinas thanked the award recipients for their dedication and commitment to Westport. “I congratulate and remind all Westport Officers that their hard work does not go unnoticed”, said Koskinas.
