Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Watch Issued; 3-6 Inches of Rain Expected

The National Weather Service, New York City has issued both a tornado watch and a flash flood watch for the region ahead of torrential rains expected tonight as Ida’s low trudges through.

Between 4 and 5 inches of rain is forecast to fall - with Westport falling into the High Risk category for widespread flooding - warning that “lives and property in greater danger.” Heaviest rain will fall overnight, and beginning to slow by day break tomorrow.

Thunderstorms are possible throughout the evening, with a tornado watch ending at 1:00 tomorrow morning. The area’s risk is noted as “marginal” for isolated thunderstorms - with an emphasis on some storms being severe throughout the evening.
