PBA Car Cruise a Show Stopper
The Westport Police Benevolent Association hosted their annual car show today at the Saugatuck Train Station’s parking lot in support of the non-profit’s missions. Hundreds of visitors strolled through the lines of more than 100 cars, including rare antiques such as a 1928 6 cylinder Chrysler Roadster, Iconic American cars, such as Sueeet, a 1957 pink Thunderbird. Also present was a rare Buick Grand National, with less than 600 being produced for Nascar racing. This was one of the fastest quarter-mile cars ever built and was used early on as unmarked CT State Police interceptors, which surprised a great number of lead-footed drivers on I-95 and I-84. A 1963 Cadilac convertible, one of the most recognizable US vehicles ever built and perhaps the longest ad more than 18 feet was shown. Prizes were awarded the best of the best while all funding went towards groups such as the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Special Olympics, and Veterans and Families of Fallen Officers. Westport PD Sergeants Dobson and Russo, show next to the red Mercedes with the gull wing doors had little difficulty interesting people in raffle tickets. Sgt. Dobson, in the Yankees cap, was one of the primary organizers of the event.
