Short Cuts Film Festival hits Westport Library
SHORT CUTS and the Westport Library today announced that the SHORT CUTS Film Festival will be screened live in the Library’s Trefz Forum and streamed online on Thursday, October 14th; Thursday, November 4th; and Thursday, November 18th.
This year marks the 11th year of the popular Fairfield County film festival and the 2nd year in partnership with the Library.
“We are excited to bring our award-winning short films to a live audience again, after being fully virtual last year," said producer Nancy Diamond. "The HD screen is spectacular for viewing and the spacious Trefz Forum is ideal for providing safe social distancing.”
SHORT CUTS is curated from the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) in NYC.
“Tribeca selects 90 short films from over 3000 submissions," Diamond continued. "We like to say we choose 15 films from the best of the best."
“We’re delighted to work with SHORT CUTS again this year and particularly looking forward to the in-person screening in the Forum,” said Bill Harmer, Westport Library Executive Director. “The lineup of films and the talkback with the directors make this a not to be missed series.”
The SHORT CUTS Film Festival will include two narrative/animated programs and, for the first time, a third documentary evening.
Included in the October 14 SHORT CUTS line-up is TFF's Best Narrative Short winner. In Chinese director Rongfei Guo's musical, The Girl With the Thermal Gun, a young man fantasizes about the woman who checks his temperature during the pandemic. A nominee in the same category is The Kicksled Choir, Norwegian director Torfinn Iverson's story of a young boy determined to do his part to help immigrants. The world's worst carjacker encounters the world’s most understanding victim in This is Us star Jon Huertes' Two Jacked. U.S director JL MacKenzie's satirical take on a consequence of COVID-19 is portrayed in his animated There are Bunnies on Fire in the Forest. Waves is based on director Agasi Desta's experience growing up with the community formed in his town's black barbershop. Death and the Lady is an animated meditation on love, loss, and memory through the eyes of a most loyal companion.
Co-directors of Death and the Lady, Geoff Bailey and Lucy Steuver will appear live in the Trefz Forum for a discussion with producer Nancy Diamond after the screenings. At-home viewers will access the talkback via Zoom and will be able to ask questions as well.
SHORT CUTS Film Festival is a program of the not-for-profit JIB Productions, producer of the long running lunch-time series Play With Your Food.
