Stratton-Rippe House: 250 Years of Westport Winters January 27, 2021 James Bairaktaris The Stratton-Rippe house sits high over Hillspoint Road this morning amongst the snow. The historic home, built in 1770, has survived 250 years of Westport winter weather. The home was already 118 years old by the time the famous blizzard of March 1888 struck the region, dropping over 50 inches of snow in some areas - New Haven registering snow drifts 40 feet tall. The area was crippled as transportation and schools were stopped until the snow could be moved.
