FEMA to Test Alerting Systems Today at 2:20
From Chief Yost, Westport Fire Department
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct national tests of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at 2:20 pm EDT.
These tests will assess the readiness to distribute an emergency message nationwide. The test messages will clearly state the alert is only a test. In the event that widespread severe weather or another significant event occurs on August 11, 2021, both tests will be postponed until Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 2:20 pm EDT.
General information on the EAS and WEA tests is provided at: The IPAWS National Test | FEMA.gov
NOTE: NWS will NOT convey any national test messages across NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) or any other NWS dissemination systems on August 11, 2021 (or the backup date, August 25, 2021).
