Westport Book Shop Announced Miggs Burroughs Exhibit for May

The Westport Book Shop welcomes Miggs Burroughs as its guest art exhibitor for the month of May, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.  He will be exhibiting one large lenticular installation called “Sign Language”, which is comprised of 25 small signs with words that change in ironic or humorous ways, such as LOVE/LEAVE or CHOOSE/LOSE or SHIELD/YIELD.

Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit used book shop, is located at 23 Jesup Road, across Jesup Green from the Westport Library, in downtown Westport.  The exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s business hours:  Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. (closed Mondays).

Miggs Burroughs is a lifelong Westport resident.  He has been creating art and graphic design since he was 20 and his very first painting was accepted into Silvermine’s prestigious Art of the Northeast show.  At age 26, he was chosen to design a commemorative U.S. Postage Stamp. He has also illustrated several covers for TIME Magazine, one of which resides in the Smithsonian Institution.  Miggs also designed the Westport Town Flag.  His work with lenticular imagery has been exhibited in several one-man shows, and is held in several private collections.  Miggs is a co-founder of the Artists Collective of Westport.  Miggs graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie-Mellon University and has taught graphic design at Fairfield University and UCONN.

Miggs is also an author.  His “The What If? Book of Questions to Some of Your Most Revealing Answers on Love and Health, Wealth & Happiness” was published in 2012. 

The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis.
