Westport Garden Club Announces Plant Sale on Jesup Green
The Westport Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale is scheduled for Friday, May 14 from 9:30am – 1:30pm on the grounds of Jesup Green, in front of the Westport Library.
Held annually since 1928 (except for the years spanning World War II and in 2020), the club is pleased to resume the sale in 2021. This year, in addition to the in-person sale on May 14, shoppers will have the opportunity to pre-order a selection of plants via a specially created online store that will go live on May 1. Plants that are pre-ordered will be available for pick up curbside on May 14. Details are on the club’s website: https://westportgardenclub.org
The May 14 sale features over 1,000 homegrown perennial plants from members’ own gardens with a special section of CT Native Plants. This year’s sale will follow state and local Covid guidelines and will focus on perennial plant material and herbs. Club members on the field are available to offer advice on plant selection and each plant has a tag with care information. The Westport Library Book Store will join the sale, offering a selection of garden related books.
Prior to the May 14 sale, shoppers are invited to visit the club at the May 1 Spring Market at the Westport Museum for History and Culture. Gift items for sale will include signature decorative container gardens and planters created as “Gifts for Mothers and Others” along with Spear Head Spades® and other garden gift items, information about Westport’s Pollinator Pathway Project and select plants. Club members will offer educational workshops at 11am and 1pm.
Proceeds from the May 14 plant sale and the club’s booth at the May 1 market support the club’s civic projects including maintenance of local public gardens, and parks among other projects. The sale is held rain or shine. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
