Westport Public Schools Announce Title 1 Preschool Screening Slots

Westport Public Schools:

Westport Public Schools will be conducting a screening to identify preschool children who are “at risk” for learning under the Federal and Local Title I eligibility criteria. Children who have had limited opportunities for exposure to a structured preschool curriculum to prepare them for elementary school are considered “at risk”. “At risk” also includes the following: a child who has limited English proficiency, a family that is financially unable to access a structured preschool, as well as a child who is “at risk” for developmental delays. If a child qualifies for a Title I slot, the child may be eligible to participate in the Stepping Stones Preschool for the upcoming school year, at no cost.

The screening is conducted by Stepping Stone Preschool staff members. The team will look at a child’s concepts, language, motor, self help and social emotional skills.

The Title I Screening will be held on June 3, 2022, at Stepping Stones Preschool, located at Coleytown Elementary School, 65 Easton Road, Westport. To participate in this Title I Screening, you must be a resident of Westport and your child must be at least 3 years of age by June 1, 2022, and can not be eligible for the 2022-2023 Kindergarten school year (cannot turn five before January 1, 2023).

Screenings are by appointment only; slots are limited. Please contact Diane Marcinowski at 203-341-1712 to make an appointment. If you have questions about Title I or would like to learn more about Stepping Stones Preschool, please contact Michele Pollock at 203-341-1765.
