Enjoy the Sun While You Can: Rain, Gale Warning to Start the Weekend
The sun was out this morning over Old Mill Beach, with few visitors to enjoy it. The National Weather Service, New York City, forecasts rain starting this afternoon and continuing through tomorrow afternoon. A Gale Warning is also in effect from 6:00 AM Saturday until 6:00 AM Sunday, with “Northwest winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt and seas 2 to 4 feet expected.” (National Weather Service, New York City)
I-95 Nearly Stopped Overnight
Planned DOT roadwork between I-95 northbound exits 18 and 19 slowed traffic to a near stand-still just after midnight on Friday. The roadwork resulted in left and center lane closures and heavy traffic for several miles - resulting in many exiting the highway to open roads on Route 1. Both lanes are planned to be re-opened by 6:00 AM Friday morning. Photo taken from the Hillspoint Road overpass, looking North, just after 12:00 AM.
Town Tree Lighting Celebrated (virtually) Tuesday Night
Through a Facebook Live Video Feed, the Town’s tree was lit by the Board of Selectmen on the steps of Town Hall Tuesday night. First Selectman Jim Marpe addressed the online crowd: “It’s disappointing that we don’t have hot chocolate with a lot of kids, and the [Staples High School] Orphenians are not here with us to celebrate - but nevertheless, despite COVID, and all the challenges that we had this year, we still want to continue on with a thing that gives us some happiness and some joy in the holiday season.”
Pizza Night in Westport
Outpost Pizza, 333 Main Street, was busy tonight as owner Joe Dedovic (center) helped manage the flurry of take-out orders. In between deliveries and orders, Dedovic said “all I had to do was turn the key, the community did the rest” when he opened the shop in November. Hours for the father-son-owned pizzeria are Monday-Saturday, 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
