An application to demolish 6 Bradley Street has been filed and will go before the Westport Historic Commission for further discussion. The 96 year old Compo Beach neighborhood home was last sold in January for 1.5 million to Goldan Homes, LLC, and was previously owned by Thomas “Big Red” Leyden and his wife, Rita. Mr. Leyden passed away in July 2020 at 82 years old.

Westport Wrecking Ball: 27 Narrow Rocks Road, Built in 1900

An April application to demolish the home at 27 Narrow Rocks Road has nearly four months left before the wrecking ball can be brought in. The Westport Historic District Commission voted in early May to uphold the 180 day delay for historic homes - giving the home and the application 6 months to be reviewed by the community, with only Randy Henkels voting to allow an earlier demolition. Owned by Roger Brach from 1969 until his death in July 2019, the home was built in 1900 and includes a tennis court and pond, which occupy the neighboring property - also owned by Brach.

The home, and adjacent 29 Narrow Rocks Road, was sold to Narrow Rocks LLC of Norwalk in March 2021 for 1.95 million dollars. The MLS already has two pre-construction homes listed for sale on the properties - both on the market for 3.8 million and 6.2 million dollars, respectively.

Westport Wrecking Ball: 37 Bermuda Road, Built in 1965

An April application to demolish 37 Bermuda Road was approved after the Westport Historic District Commission unanimously waived the 180 delay in issuing the permit. The home was built in 1965 and includes a private deep water dock in the exclusive Bermuda Lagoon. It was last sold for a total of 1.2 million in April 2021 to 37 Bermuda Road LLC.

Purchased in July 2020 for 2.64 million dollars by Mattera Construction, the former home was owned by the Doctor family since it’s construction in the Spring of 1964. Wrecking Ball: 27 Gorham Avenue, 1933

After the October death of its owner, the 1933 built home at 27 Gorham Avenue is slated to be demolished.

27 Gorham Avenue - and its crescent moon shutters, stone fireplace, and sloping roof - is slated for demolition, according to a November application. The home was built in 1933 and sits on .46 acres. The property was transferred in November to the Estate of John Geroski, who owned the home until his death in October at the age of 97.

Due to its historic stature, Historic District Commission members voted on December 8th to uphold the 180 day delay of demolition from it’s November 20th application date, allowing more time for public inspection. Members cited the character of the home within the district, its current condition, and wanting to assure all other options were explored prior to demolishing the home.
