Staples Girls Swimming Continues to Set Records at FCIAC Championships

Staples girls swimming had a record breaking FCIAC Championships. Staples High School completed the FCIAC championships with three record breaking performances. Freshman Annam Olasewere set the State and FCIAC record in the 50 yard free with a time of 22.77. Olasewere's time of 50.18 in the 100 yd free also set a new FCIAC record. Senior Jessica Qi finished second in that event with a season best of 52.21. Qi also took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.05
The relay team of freshman Annam Olasewere, Ayaan Olasewere and seniors Ella Alpert and Jessica Qi set a new FCIAC record in the 200 free relay (1:36.27) and also won the 400 free relay (3:31.87)
Alpert was fifth in the 100 yd fly (57.78) and 7th in the 100yd back (1:00.51) while freshman Libby Turner (1:01.79) took the eighth spot.
Juniors Mia Guster and Kate Whittaker finished 8th and 11th respectively in the diving competition.

Elizabeth “Lisa” Klein Johnson, 66, Died; Born Westporter, Accomplished Professional
Elizabeth "Lisa" Klein Johnson, 66, died November 1, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of James "Jim" Johnson. Lisa was born in Westport, CT to the late Edward Stanley Klein, Jr. and Joan (Sullivan) Klein. Her education included a Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School, an MBA in Finance from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University and a BA degree in International Relations from the University of Arizona. Lisa was the General Counsel & Co-Founder of WNG Capital, an aircraft investment company. Prior to that she served as Counsel for Deutsche Bank and before that VP & Senior Counsel for BTMU Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi.
Lisa enjoyed reading, music and loved her dogs which were all named after Star Trek characters. She is survived by a son, James John Johnson, Jr. of Beverly, and a sister, Susan Klein Thomas and husband Jerry Thomas of Scottsdale, AZ. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward "Ted" Klein.

Artist's Reception At Amy Simon Fine Art
Pushing The Boundaries, the newest exhibit at the Amy Simon Gallery, 123 Post Rd. East opened last night with a reception for the artists, Donald Martiny and Amy Genser.
Martiny’s signature work is composed of dispersed pigment on aluminum. He creates immediately frozen brushstrokes that are made from his own movements. Once completed, they look like relief on the wall. He is represented by galleries in Europe, the US and Australia.
Genser, who has has five previous exhibits at Amy Simon, works with paper and paint to explore her obsession with texture, pattern, and color. She uses paper as pigment and constructs her pieces by layering, cutting, rolling, and combining paper,with the natural world providing much of her inspiration. She has received commissions from as far away as Spain, London and Poland, and right in our own backyard at the Delamar West Hartford and Yale New Haven.
The exhibit runs through December 31.
