Paving on Riverside Avenue between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue Begins Tuesday
Peter Ratkiewich, Director of Public WorksPublic Works Director Peter Ratkiewich announced today that as part of the Riverside Avenue improvement project, traffic patterns will be modified in order to facilitate demolition of the concrete roadway and reconstruction of the pavement.
Beginning Tuesday, November 9, traffic on Riverside Avenue between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue will be restricted to northbound vehicles only. All southbound traffic will be directed down Saugatuck Avenue to Charles Street.
During paving operations, expected to occur Thursday, November 11 and Friday, November 12, the road section will be closed to all but local traffic. All other traffic will be detoured around Charles Street and Saugatuck Avenue.
All dates and times are approximate and subject to weather conditions.
Motorists are advised to drive with additional caution, allow extra travel time, and obey all detour and safety signals.
Westport COVID-19 Cases Up 2
The Westport-Weston Health District reported 2 new COVID-19 cases for Westport over the weekend. The State’s daily test positivity rate was up to 2.57% while hospitalizations were up 10.
Westport total positive or probable cases: 2,149 cases.
Westport total COVID-19 Deaths: 32 deaths.
State Daily Test Positivity: 2.57% [up from 1.33%]
State Hospitalizations: 207 patients [+10]
Staples Wreckers Crush Westhill Of Stamford
This was the scene all too often for Westhill on Saturday in Stamford
Staples dominated Westhill of Stamford completely, scoring four touchdowns in the first half, while holding the Vikings scoreless until the last two minutes of the half when they scored their only touchdown. The Wreckers offense crossed the goal line twice more when Mike Scarpo got the offense rolling again with another touchdown almost immediately in the third quarter and Preston Norris put the icing on the cake at the eight minute mark in the fourth quarter.
The Wreckers stifling defense held Westhill scoreless to finish the game by the score of 42-7.
The Wreckers face the Ridgefield Tigers next Friday, November 12th at 7:00 at home.

Construction Crew Strikes Gas Line near Riverside Ave/Saugatuck Ave Intersection
Firefighters were dispatched just after 8:45 this morning to the area of 472 Riverside Avenue for the reported gas leak from a construction incident. Motorists are warned by police of several detours around the leak while it’s controlled.
Saugatuck Avenue: Southbound lane open (heading towards I-95 from Downtown), Northbound lane closed (heading from I-95 towards Downtown)
Riverside Avenue: Closed between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue
Westport Police Department ReleaseThe intersection at Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue is currently closed due to a ruptured gas line.
All northbound traffic on Saugatuck Avenue is being diverted onto Sunrise Road.
All northbound traffic on Riverside Avenue between the Saugatuck Train Station and Bridge Street is being diverted onto Bridge Street.
All southbound traffic on Riverside Avenue can either divert onto Treadwell Avenue or proceed southbound on Saugatuck Avenue.
The southbound lane of Saugatuck Avenue remains open.
We are asking motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
At this time, it is unknown when this intersection will be reopened.
