Starling Murmuration

We all have noticed gigantic flocks of birds in the fall coving the sky. These are European Starlings, considered to be an invasive species by U.S. Fish & Wildlife. The flocks are known as a murmuration. This one was observed flying over Staples High School on Tuesday and likely numbered between two and three thousand which is not very large in fact. Starling murmurations can number in the tens of thousands!

Staples Boys Soccer Score A Shut-Out in First Round Of State Tournament

The Wreckers, seeded #6 (10-1-4) defeated 27th seed Manchester (3-6-7) on a beautiful sunny day at Wakeman Field on Tuesday. Striker Reese Watkins put the first goal on the scoreboard with a penalty kick early in the match. Ryan Thomas then scored his first of two goals. Jackson Hochhauser next scored the Wrecker's third goal with Thomas capping of the game with his second goal with minutes left making the score 4-0. Assists came from Murilo Moreno and Matthew Jordan,, who added two. Staples faces #22 seed Conard (7-7-2) of West Hartford on Thursday at 2 PM at Wakeman Field.
