Westport Public SchoolsThe Westport Board of Education seeks candidates for a vacancy on the Board created by the resignation of Youn Su Chao. The successful candidate will serve on the Board of Education from the date of appointment until the Board of Education election scheduled for November 2023.
Any individual interested in being considered for appointment to the position is required to be:
A registered Democrat;
Willing to be interviewed separately by the Democratic Town Committee and the Board of Education prior to appointment;
Willing to serve and attend Board of Education meetings immediately upon appointment, which appointment will take place as early as Monday, December 20, 2021.
Letters of application are to be submitted to the Board of Education by no later than Monday, December 13 at 5 p.m., either by email or in person, to:

Santa Swims with the Sharks at Maritime Aquarium
Photo contributed by The Maritime AquariumThe Maritime AquariumPose for a very unique holiday photo with Santa Claus in The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk as Santa dons scuba gear to swim among 7- and 8-foot sharks on select days in December.
Three days each week, “Shark-Diving Santa” presentations have Santa squeezing into his custom dive outfit and entering the Aquarium’s 110,000-gallon “Ocean Beyond the Sound” exhibit, which is home to eight large sand tiger and lemon sharks. During each dive, he will swim up to the exhibit window and pose with guests, so bring your camera for a “picture with Santa” that’s available only at The Maritime Aquarium.
Santa is expected to participate in dives at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Jan. 2. (There are no dives Dec. 24 and 25.) All the dives are free with Aquarium admission.

The Santa dives are part of a frequent Aquarium program that seeks to correct common misperceptions about sharks, as the divers demonstrate how sharks do not see humans as prey. Or, as Santa, says, “Sharks aren’t naughty; they’re nice!”
Check the Aquarium’s website – www.maritimeaquarium.org – to confirm the dates when Santa can pull himself away from the North Pole and exchange his snow boots for swim fins.
Westport Book Shop Announces Winter Family Fest this Saturday
The Westport Book Shop invites families to Jesup Green this Saturday, December 11th, from 10:30 a.m. to Noon, for its first “Winter Family Fest”.
Join the Westport Book Shop for fun winter activities, including snowflake-themed crafts, music and games to keep you moving, and hot chocolate and cookies from The Porch @ Christies. There will also be winter story readings inside the Book Shop every 15 minutes.
“The Westport Book Shop is more than a used book shop, it’s a community gathering place. We are happy to organize events that bring people together, and bring visibility to other local businesses and nonprofits. The Porch @ Christies, which stresses inclusion and employment of individuals of all abilities, and its related nonprofit Sweet P Bakery, are terrific partners for this event,” said Jocelyn Barandiaran, President of the nonprofit that operates the Book Shop.
The Winter Family Fest will take place rain or shine, so dress warm!
