Gas Powered Leaf Blower Conversation Returns Tuesday Night at 5:30 during Public Meeting
The Westport RTM Public Works Committee, Parks & Recreation, and Environment Committees will be meeting Tuesday night at Town Hall to discuss a proposed leaf blower ordinance. The conversation is continued from last year, when the ordinance struck a nerve with many who rely on the devices for work, while giving great comfort to others who experience the harsh sounds and wish to prevent anymore pollution. Westport Public Meeting AgendaThe RTM Public Works Committee, Parks & Recreation and Environment Committees will meet jointly on December 14, 2021 at 5:30 PM in the Town Hall Auditorium for a work session regarding the Gas Powered Leaf Blower Ordinance. This meeting will also be recorded and live streamed on the Town website.
The purpose of this meeting is to hear from the Landscaping Community, the Parks & Recreation Department, the Public Works Department and the Chief of Police regarding how the Leaf Blower Ordinance will affect them.
The agenda will be as follows:
The committees will receive input (order to be determined by Committee Chairs) from and discuss the Leaf Blower Ordinance with: the Chief of Police, Head Groundskeeper at Birchwood Country Club, Connecticut Groundskeepers Association members (presentation), Director of Public Works, Director of Parks and Recreation.
This meeting is a Committee Work Session. We will try to limit the work session to approximately 90 minutes. There will be no vote regarding the ordinance at this meeting. The public is welcome to attend this work session but will not participate in the meeting. There will be additional committee meetings regarding the Ordinance where public input is encouraged.

Westport COVID-19 Cases Up 21 over Weekend; State Positivity Rate Down, Hospitalizations Up 60 Patient
The Westport-Weston Health District reported 21 new COVID-19 cases for Westport over the weekend. The State’s daily test positivity rate was down to 2.21% while hospitalizations were up 60 patients, totaling 645 patients across the State.
Westport total positive or probable cases: 2,289 cases.
Westport total COVID-19 Deaths: 32 deaths.
State Daily Test Positivity: 2.21% [down from 6.08%]
State Hospitalizations: 645 patients [+60]

The Students of the Month award program recognizes students who help make Staples High School a welcoming place for their peers and teachers alike. They are the “glue” of the Staples community: the type of kind, cheerful, hard-working, trustworthy students that keep the high school together, making it the special place that it is.
Students of the month are nominated by their teachers, who are asked to think of those students who come to school regularly, are friendly to the staff and to fellow students, and make positive contributions in class as well as the Staples community. In short, these students are all-around good citizens of our school. Students of the Month are not necessarily star athletes, high honor students, or lead performers, and even if they are, this award recognizes the positive attitude they bring to school every day in making Staples High School a genial place in which to learn and teach.
