Westport COVID-19 Cases Up 1; State Positivity Rate 6.10%, Hospitalizations Down 21 Patients
The Aspetuck Health District and State Department of Public Health reported just 1 new COVID-19 case for Westport over the past 24 hours. The State’s daily test positivity rate was up to 6.10% while hospitalizations were down as 21 more patients were released from hospitals.
Westport total positive or probable cases: 3,763 cases.

National Hall Roof Fire Draws Multiple Departments; Extinguished Quickly
Westport Fire Department Contributed photoAt approximately 3:50 PM the Westport Fire Department received calls reporting a building fire at 2 Post Rd W. Arriving units reported heavy smoke showing from the roof of a three-story building.
Firefighters entered the building and searched all three floors to ensure everyone had evacuated the building. After confirming the building was evacuated, crews searched the top floor and attic space for fire. Westport Truck 1 went to the roof and began searching for fire in the heavy smoke. Fire was discovered under the roof sheathing and was extinguished after access was made by crews on the roof and the top floor.
Norwalk Truck 2 assisted with roof operations and Wilton Engine 1 provided manpower on scene. Roadways were shut down in the vicinity of the fire on Wilton and Post Rd for the duration of the operation. Crews from Fairfield and Weston Fire Departments provided station coverage. One firefighter weas treated on scene for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office.
Post Road Bridge Closed for Possible Structure Fire at historic National Hall
Westport Fire Department photoAround 3:30 this afternoon a possible structure fire was reported at National Hall, the historic building built in 1837 that once housed a furniture company, a hotel, and most recently The Meatball Shop. Traffic around the downtown area will be extensive as firefighters respond to the incident, with traffic shut down on the Post Road Bridge, Post Road West to Kings Highway North, and Wilton Road. No other information has been released at this time.

Martin for WestportLocal.comOn Saturday February 12, 2020 the Staples Girls Gymnastics team competed in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and exceeded expectations. They were seeded 5th and when the day was over finished 4th with a score of 134.15, edging out Trumbull High. A total of 7 teams competed fielding a total of 60 gymnasts, including two competitors each from schools which failed to qualify.
Standout Mia Guster (all FCIAC) had an awesome day - besting the 60 competitors to win vault - finishing 2nd on floor exercise and 5th on beam. Victoria Fidalgo (all FCIAC) finished 5th on parallel bars. Daisy Seaborne and Sofia Alarcon and Norwalk's Alyssa Smeriglio finished second team all FCIAC. Norwalk gymnasts compete on the Staples team. Grace Horton and Viva Malcarney were FCIAC honorable mention.
Up Next: Staples faces Norwalk and Wilton today Tuesday February 15, in Wilton, and Norwalk on Thursday at the Westport YMCA. Then they head into the State Tournament on February 26th at Jonathan Law HS in Milford and then the State Open Championship on Saturday March 5th at New Milford High School.
