The Wreckers of Staples High School came out hot against the Lancers of Notre Dame Prep (Fairfield), up 21-8 after the first quarter and never looked back. Their defense fueled their offense, which has been a theme all season long for this team, and they will look to cap off their unbeaten season as they return to Mohegan Sun this weekend (date and time TBA). They will square off against the Blue Devils of West Haven High School, who defeated cross-town rival Notre Dame West Haven last night by a score of 43-42. Staples returns to Mohegan Sun for the first time since 2023, when they were defeated in the division 2 champions ship to St. Bernard. Staples will look for their first state championship in 89 years, this time in division 1.

Leading the Wreckers offense was senior Sam Clachko who was 8 of 15 from the field and 2 of 3 from the line for 19 points, adding 4 assists and 6 steals. Senior Matty Corrigan followed closely and was nearly perfect, hitting 4 of 5 field goal attempts including a trey and was 7 of 8 from the foul line. Junior Dhilan Lowman and senior forward Mason Tobias each added 10 points. Junior Austin Heyer chipped in 8 more points on 4 of 7 attempts.
