Steam Coffee & Tea opens on Railroad Place on the corner of Riverside Avenue. Offering not only Coffee and Tea for morning commuters, but will also feature Uncle Leo’s Donuts. Sited in the historic building that once was the first Post Office for both Saugatuck and Westport, they will have automated mailboxes for rent as well.  This was the third ribbon cut on RR Place in as many weeks signaling a full resurgence of business on that integral street.

One Charged for Throwing Rocks

Westport Police Department Release

On August 6, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Westport Police officers responded to Bridge Street on a report of a disturbance.  The complainant reported that as she was walking along Bridge Street a female began to allegedly throw large rocks at her.  The complainant was not struck by any of the stones.  The attack was purportedly unprovoked.  A description of the suspect was provided by the complainant and the suspect, who was identified as Victoria Grant, was located a short time later on Compo Road South.

Based upon the investigation, Ms. Grant was placed under arrest.  She was charged with Breach of Peace and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree.  Ms. Grant was released from custody on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on Monday, August 16, 2021.

One Charged for DWI Following Sylvan Road Rollover

On August 5, 2021, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Westport Police officers responded to the area of Sylvan Road South at Sylvan Lane on a report of a single car motor vehicle accident.  Upon arrival, officers located a Jeep resting on its side.  The driver, who was identified as Anthony Cochrane, stated he was not injured.  While speaking with Mr. Cochrane, the officer noted that he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Mr. Cochrane’s breath.  Due to this indicator of possible intoxication, a standardized field sobriety test was conducted.  Mr. Cochrane was reportedly unable to perform the test to standard and he was placed under arrest.

Once at the police department, Mr. Cochrane purportedly refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.  He was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol and Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane.  Mr. Cochrane was released after posting a $400.00 bond and he is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Car Accident involving Bicyclist Reported on Hills Point Road

A motor vehicle accident was reported just after 10:00 this morning on Hills Point Road in the area of Loretta Court and Hillside Road, about 300 meters past the I-95 overpass. First responders were dispatched for the report of a bicyclist involved in the collision, which has closed Hills Point Road for a short time, leaving the only beach area access to Compo Road South. No information has been released on what caused the accident or the extent of injuries.
